How to start and understand a GEO analysis in Semji?

Learn how to launch a GEO analysis in Semji, transform keywords into smart AI questions, and interpret results to optimize your content for generative search engines.

You have understood the fundamental concepts of GEO. Now let's move on to practice: how to actually start a GEO analysis in Semji and interpret the results in the "AI Response" tab to optimize your content.

How to start a GEO analysis?

A GEO analysis is triggered automatically by your main keyword. Semji transforms that keyword into a Focus Prompt, queries ChatGPT, and presents the results in a clear, actionable interface.

Start the GEO analysis from your content

Whether you just created a draft or you are working on existing content, the procedure is the same.

Step 1: Open your content in the Semji Editor (from Planning or Pages)

Step 2: Make sure your main keyword is properly filled in. This is the keyword Semji will transform into the Focus Prompt.

Step 3: In the right-hand sidebar, click "GEO"

What happens next:

Once you click the "Update" button, Semji automatically performs several actions:

  • Transforms your keyword into an optimized Focus Prompt
  • Queries ChatGPT with that Focus Prompt
  • Analyzes and structures the response into the GEO tabs (Optimizations, Overview, Sources, Mentions)

Important: This action also updates the associated SEO analysis. Both analyses are synchronized to provide you with a comprehensive view.

⏱️ Analysis time

The GEO analysis currently takes about 5 minutes to complete. This delay allows us to query ChatGPT and thoroughly analyze its response to provide you with precise recommendations.

We are actively working to optimize this analysis time in upcoming releases.

Understanding the transformation: from keyword to Focus Prompt

Let's look concretely at what happens using the example of marine collagen:

Entered keyword: "marine collagen"

Focus Prompt generated by Semji: "What are the benefits of marine collagen for the skin and how should you choose it?"

Why this transformation is essential:

A keyword alone ("marine collagen") is too vague for ChatGPT. The AI doesn't know which intent to address: definition? benefits? buying guide? comparison with other types of collagen?

By turning the keyword into a precise question, Semji ensures two things:

  • ChatGPT replies in French (and not in English)
  • ChatGPT uses external sources (and does not respond solely from its internal knowledge base)

Why users don't type keywords into ChatGPT

Search behavior has evolved:

  • Google: 4 keywords on average → short, generic queries
  • ChatGPT: 24 words on average → complete, nuanced questions

Concrete example: Instead of typing "SEO", users ask questions like "I'm the owner of an SME and I want to get started with SEO — where should I begin and what budget should I expect?"

Semji's Focus Prompt reflects this reality: it transforms your keyword into the question your users would actually ask ChatGPT.

How to Analyze the Overview: The Two Essential Dimensions

Focus on two key elements when analyzing the “AI Response” tab:

1. Response format

Observe how ChatGPT organizes information:

  • Comparison table
  • Bullet list
  • Paragraphs with subheadings
  • Mixed formats

This format reveals the most effective way to present information to match user search intent.

2. Angle of approach

Identify the intent behind the response:

  • Practical guide (“how to do X”)
  • Comparison/buying guide (“which X to choose”)
  • Definition/explanation (“what is X”)
  • List of recommendations (“the best X for Y”)
Concrete example: “marine collagen”

Semji transforms “marine collagen” into a Focus Prompt: “What are the benefits of marine collagen for the skin and how should you choose it?” ChatGPT structures the response as a practical guide, covering: definition/origin, health benefits, selection criteria (dosage, form, certifications), and usage tips. The angle is not just descriptive—it's decision-support. To be cited, your content needs to cover all four dimensions, not just the benefits.

Your action: adopt this structure

✅ Analysis checklist

Compare your content with the Overview:

  • Does my content use the same formats as ChatGPT (table, list, paragraphs)?
  • Have I covered the same angles and dimensions?
  • Does my content clearly answer the Focus Prompt?

Identify specific gaps

List what’s missing from your content:

  • Missing sections: For example, if the Overview displays a “Selection Criteria” section and you don’t have one.
  • Absent formats: If the Overview uses a comparison table and you don’t.
  • Practical information: Usage tips, dosages, certifications.

Practical example: If the AI response features a table comparing types of collagen (marine, bovine, plant-based) with columns for “Origin,” “Bioavailability,” and “Average Price,” replicate this table with your own data.

Integrate the expected format

  1. Restructure using the H2/H3 headers identified in the Overview
  2. Add any missing dimensions (selection criteria, practical advice)
  3. Format according to ChatGPT’s style (tables, numbered lists, bullet points)

Important: Never copy ChatGPT’s content. Write your own content based on your expertise, but adopt the structure and angle identified as most relevant by the AI.

Next step: analyze your competitors

You now know how to launch a GEO analysis and decode the expected structure using the “AI Response” tab. But where does this answer come from? Which content did ChatGPT use to build it? Most importantly: how can you become one of those featured sources?

That’s what you’ll discover in the next tutorial.

➡️ Move to the next step: Analyze the “Sources” and “Mentions” tabs to get ahead of your competitors.
