# Why and how to connect your Matomo
## You can now connect Matomo to your Semji account and add up to 3 conversion goals!

### Why connect your Matomo account
Semji not only helps you create and optimize your content, but also allows you to track your results and performance at a glance. The software retrieves extensive data from different tools such as Matomo and Search Console, to display the performance of the content you are working on.
*If you don't have access to these statistical tools, you won't be able to track your KPIs (Key Primary Indicators) with in the platform.*
However, if you don't already use Matomo, don't worry! Semji is also compatible with [Google Analytics](https://help.semji.com/en/en/how-to-connect-my-google-analytics?hsLang=en) ( Universal Analytics property, Google Analytics 4) and [Piano Analytics](https://help.semji.com/en/en/how-to-connect-my-piano-analytics-account?hsLang=en), [Adobe Analytics](https://help.semji.com/en/en/why-and-how-to-connect-your-adobe-analytics?hsLang=en) and [Piwik Pro](https://help.semji.com/en/why-and-how-to-connect-your-piwik-pro?hsLang=en).
### How to connect your Matomo account to Semji
If you have subscribed to the Matomo integration, you will need to follow the steps below.
**Step 1:**
Access the settings located in the left sidebar.
**Step 2:**
In the Workspace settings tabs, click on "Integrations".
**Step 3:**
This is where you can connect your web analytics tools. Click on the "Connect" button in Matomo.
**Step 4:**
There are two options for connecting your Matomo account to Semji:
1. You can host the Matomo solution yourself:
Simply enter your Matomo access URL and then your ID token (you can generate a new ID token in Matomo's security settings.
2. Cloud domain hosted by Matomo:
Provide the Matomo URL ( [https://exemple.matomo.cloud](https://exemple.matomo.cloud/)), then enter your ID token (you can generate a new ID token in Matomo's security settings).

Click on next to connect your Matomo account.
*Good to know 💡: If you ever get an error message in Semji, remember to check that the "Secure use only" option is deactivated on your Matomo account when you create your identification token.*
**Step 5:**
Your Matomo account is now connected, you can monitor your content's performance.
A new button has appeared to the left of the "Connected" button: "Manage goals".
This button allows you to control the conversion goals set in Matomo and to be sent to Semji.

##### ⚠️ **Matomo: Data Retroactivity**
After (re)connecting Matomo, performance data may only be visible from the date of reconnection, even if retroactive data retrieval is actively in progress.
Semji relies on Matomo segments (filters) to classify data. These segments yield immediate results for dates following their creation, but historical data is recalculated progressively on Matomo’s end. Depending on your Matomo infrastructure, this recalculation can take several days or even several weeks. Semji has no control over this processing time.
If you need to restart a full retrieval, disconnecting and reconnecting (or updating) the Matomo integration will trigger a fresh recovery "from scratch."
